Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers about appointments, IDs, fees, and RON.
What do I need to bring to my appointment?+
Bring (1) the unsigned document — please do NOT sign it before the appointment, as a notary must witness your signature, and (2) a valid, unexpired government-issued photo ID (driver's license, passport, passport card, or state ID card).
What IDs are accepted?+
Virginia notaries accept unexpired government-issued photo IDs. That includes U.S. or state driver's licenses, U.S. passports or passport cards, military IDs, and foreign passports. The name on your ID must reasonably match the name on the document.
How much does a notarization cost?+
Virginia caps the notarial fee at $5.00 per act for traditional in-person notarizations and $25.00 per act for Remote Online Notarization (RON). Mobile (travel-to-you) service adds a travel fee, which we quote up front before you confirm the appointment. Loan signings are a flat package fee — see the loan-signing question below.
When are in-person and mobile appointments available?+
Saturdays and Sundays, 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM, anywhere in Northern Virginia — through July 5, 2026. On weekday evenings we notarize online instead (5:30–8:30 PM ET), which works for most documents and is usually faster. After July 5, online notarization remains available year-round.
What does a loan signing include?+
A flat $125 package fee (within 25 miles of Reston; $150 beyond) covers the full appointment for a purchase, refinance, seller, or HELOC package: our time at your table, travel, and printing two complete document sets — one to sign and one for your records. The flat fee is a signing-agent service fee for time, travel, printing, and handling; it includes every notarization in the package.
How do travel fees work for mobile appointments?+
Travel fees are based on road miles from Reston, VA: $35 up to 10 miles, $50 for 10–20 miles, $75 for 20–35 miles, and a custom quote beyond that. Visits starting before 8 AM or after 8 PM add a $25 surcharge. Every travel fee is disclosed and agreed in your confirmation email before you commit — nothing is ever charged online.
How does Remote Online Notarization actually work?+
Book an evening or weekend slot, and we'll send a secure session link before the meeting. You join from any device with a camera, verify your identity (a quick ID scan plus knowledge-based questions), and we meet on video while you sign electronically. The session is recorded and the document is sealed tamper-evident, then delivered digitally — usually within minutes. Sessions run on NotaryHub, a MISMO-certified platform.
Can you notarize a document remotely?+
Yes. Virginia was the first state to authorize Remote Online Notarization, and we are a registered electronic notary and RON provider. You can sign from anywhere using a camera-equipped device. Not every document is RON-eligible (for example, some jurisdictions restrict RON for certain real-estate documents) — we'll confirm before the appointment.
Do you offer same-day or evening appointments?+
Often, yes — online. RON sessions run weekday evenings (5:30–8:30 PM ET) and weekends (9 AM–6:30 PM ET), frequently with same-day availability. In-person, mobile, and loan-signing appointments run Saturdays and Sundays. All bookings need at least 3 hours' notice.
Can you notarize a will, living will, or estate planning document?+
Yes — provided the document was drafted by you or an attorney and is ready to sign. We are not attorneys and cannot advise on document contents or draft documents. If you haven't spoken with a lawyer about your estate plan, please do so first; we'll notarize once the document is ready.
Can you notarize a document in a language I don't read?+
A signer must be able to communicate directly with the notary (in English, or through an interpreter in certain cases — rules vary). We may not notarize if we cannot confirm you understand what you're signing. If language is a barrier, please contact us beforehand.
What forms of payment do you accept?+
Cash, Zelle, Venmo, and major credit/debit cards — payment is collected at the appointment, never online through this site. You'll receive a receipt by email. RON sessions run through NotaryHub may be paid through the platform.
Can you come to a hospital or assisted living facility?+
Yes — hospital and assisted living signings are a common mobile notary request. The signer must be alert, aware, and able to sign voluntarily. If you're unsure whether your loved one meets that standard, please describe the situation when you book.
What areas do you serve?+
Weekend mobile and in-person service across Northern Virginia — Arlington, Alexandria, Fairfax, Loudoun, Prince William, and surrounding areas. Remote Online Notarization is available to signers anywhere.
